On making fountains pouring water out of a Sphere… (silver piece)

Posted in art, dream, everyday, fashion, fun, handmade, happy, life, love, me, original by Natalia on April 3rd, 2008
Finally finished my fountain, I want to continue with the water theme as I did with the Little Jar

The chains move with every movement one makes and this for me is the highlight of it,also the water is meant to be pouring from the chain in the neck into it (am weird I know  Cheesy)

This took a  fair bit of work but I’m very proud it’s exactly as I had it pictured in my head and it was born out of a sphere,( In school we had to make a piece based on a sphere), and well if you cut a sphere in 4 you pretty much get these little pots..

I’m so so happy with it and I’m so happy I can share the completed pictures of it, it’s a great feeling to finish things..

I have some sketches of variations of this piece, I want to make earrings and maybe one that is not as elaborate something more simple for people that like more minimal things.

The funny thing is that one thing leads to the other.. All started with water theme.. after making the fountain I’m looking into more ideas of developing this idea in different manners.. and I found this site which features all these beautiful water fountains..

Wouldn’t something like this make a great pendant?

On making Silver Lotus Rings to not lose it..and keep what I do more personal

Posted in art, crafts, dream, everyday, handmade, life, love by Natalia on April 1st, 2008

Well I was making a ring the other day, but during class it was a request from someone and honestly well I’ve been at this for 5 months I’m not a jeweler yet and some things leave me clueless..

I had a request for a ring and I took the request to my teacher to see how it could be done, and I started and spent hours and hours trying to get through it and then my teacher told me about why we have to have our place.

So this is the situation if someone asks me for a piece and if it’s so time consuming that I’ll leave personal projects behind, then is just not a good idea.

I told that person that I was not going to able to make the ring for her yet, and there was no problem, and then I made me this..

If you make piece and that person wants one with a variation, wants the piece, wants one like it.. it’s good. But if someone tells me what to do how to do it.. then where do I put my personality on it ? Where is my touch? That thing that says I made it. These includes replicas, some people even get pictures of others people’s designs and say : “ I want this”

This is a ring I’m wearing daily with my version of a lotus flower, the ring is to remind me to work on my ideas and to try to keep it an art, personal, even if I make less money.

I’m happy to clear my brain..

Have you ever wondered how high birds can fly? (Silver piece)

Posted in art, crafts, fun, handmade, happy, inspiration, life, me, necklace by Natalia on March 31st, 2008

I’m sure they can’t flight up to the moon, but what if one tried.

This pendant is just  a though I had from a conversation when this question popped out, and at night I went home and I just had  tiny bit of silver and I made this pendant.

It’s very little a bit more than half an inch, the sky is oxidized , something about oxidizing pieces I like the shadows and things that can be done with it..

I got my order  the other day, I have 150 grams of silver to play with not much but enough and get some Ideas I have made.I’ll do more with this theme I’m thinking a ring I like the result.

On making silver teacups.. out of a memory of stargazing.

Posted in art, dream, everyday, inspiration, jewellery, life, nature, original, silver, silversmith by Natalia on March 17th, 2008
So the story goes like this..

One upon a time me and 2 friends were in the beach , covered by a red blanket at 3am looking at the stars, It was a bit cold and then we said ” A cup of tea would make this perfection” ..

This is what I made from the red blanket, stargazing story..

This is Oxidized silver (could be all shinny too ) But I like the old feeling of it..I made it out of a piece of extra silver I had from another project I’ll post soon.

*** starssss***

This is how it looks on..

yeee…That’s all folks…

On torches, cameras , teaching spanish and an elephant having a shower…

Posted in costa rica, everyday, fun, funny, life, me, opinion by Natalia on March 3rd, 2008

A while ago I mentioned I got a new job for the weekend.. www.spanishpod101.com.. It’s pretty funny.. I do the Costarican series..

So pretty much we teach people the slang from Costa Rica.. and talk about the country things that are common on the streets so on..

The series are a fun project , and I never realized until I heard myself in the studio that I sometimes have the voice of a 12 yr old..and I go from serious to making hundreds of noises like weee..yay..wooo..bla bla.. I sound bipolar..but still obviously its all good quality recordings I’m just the weird one :P..

I’m very happy with this…

It’s very hard to work 6 days a week but it’s paying off. I got a new torch for the workshop and 2 sets of files..the torch is similar to this one.. just used with regular gas.. I wanted an Acetylene  one but I would have to get it overseas. :( IN THE FUTURE I WILL! …

I needed been working on new designs.. but well you already know the camera story..so I can’t show anything..

I’ll see if  I can buy this one this week..

The reviews I’ve read are fine and well I like the touch screen factor of it..

Since I’m all damn busy the whole time I barely have time to go out or read which is annoying and got nothing substantial to write about.

So I just leave you with an elephant having a splash :P

Story of a Princess.. and how people should let kids be kids!(and me being a tailor)

Posted in beautiful, fashion, handmade, life by Natalia on January 14th, 2008

Once upon a time.. a 5 and a half year old called Genesis (my littl sister) wanted to be a princess for xmas..

But her mom is just a dull person and told her she wouldn’t buy her a princess dress coz she was too old for that and it was ridiculous..So i told her mom that , that’s the age we have the right to wear a princess dress or skirt anything we want.!

When she told me about it I made it my goal to make one even tho I’ve used my sewing machine just for random projects.. and this is the result:

It has sequins all over..

She loved it!

as an extra I gave her all the accessories..

The jewellery..

And her mom couldn’t say anything because I’m her big sister and I have the right to give her whatever she wants, to support her in whatever she needs and to spoil her….  Grin Grin

” Pouring Water” - Second Silver Piece Completed!

Posted in art, artist, costa rica, dream, fashion, handmade, happy, jewellery, life, necklace, opinion, original, silver, silversmith by Natalia on December 19th, 2007

So sorry for not updating on this all of a sudden I said man I’m meant to take pictures of the process.. but I either work on it or take pictures I’ll do my best for the next one..

I added the handles as you can see here…

dsc03243.jpg

and the chain It took so so long you wouldn’t believe I had to make a small circle the chains would rest inside then I had to solder a tiny loop on the end of each chain then , pass a silver wire with all the chains inside it and solder from outside.. I don’t have a clue if I’m making sense.. Here you can sort of see the chain detail..the idea is for the chains  to have movement…It looks so pretty when you walk..

dsc03239.jpg

I Oxidized part-of the pot trying to give it a shadow , my teacher told me to use a scotch Britte to do this.. and well It was really simple and I honestly love the dark areas makes the piece somehow more interesting.. looking older..more elegant who knows well here it is..

And this is how it looks on!

dsc03221.jpg

I’m very very happy with the result and I learnt so much with this piece It’s amazing , and I made it way faster than the first one and all techniques keep getting easier..

Thank you for reading this It means a lot to me for people to see what I dream to do for a living..
